FAMILY PUPPET THEATRES
The interactive exhibition presents family puppet theatres and interactive plays for children. Hosted and guided by students from the Department of Puppetry, Theatre Faculty, Academy of performing Arts.
Family puppet theatres emerged in Slovakia at about the break of the 19th and 20th centuries. The foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918 brought to Slovakia influx of Czech intellectuals bringing along family puppet theatres with decorations by Czech artists, as significant part of Czech culture. The exhibition presents the evolution of family puppet theatre from the interwar period until present day. The artefacts on display comes from the collections of The Slovak National Museum – The Museum of Puppetry Cultures and Toys at the castle Modrý Kameň, being a major part the Museum collection fund..
SNM - The Museum of Puppetry Culutres and Toys
The Museum of Puppet Culture and Toys at Modrý Kameň castle is a specialised museum serving all of Slovakia and focusing on documentation of the history and culture of puppet theatres and the history, development of children’s toys as well as the history of the region in which the museum is located. Cultural, artistic, historical, archaeological and ethnographic artefacts accumulated by the museum in its focus area are brought here, duly processed, protected and made publicly available through permanent exhibitions and various cultural events which are particularly popular among children and young people.
The castle complex comprises ruins of an old Gothic castle (13th Century) and a Baroque manor house (since 1730) where the museum is located.
